After Beach, soon which comes to my mind is SHOPPING…which I luv to do…Outing with my friends is one of my all-time favorite activity!!
Pondicherry consists of parallel and perpendicular streets without zigzag turns. So even if u get lost, u can find out the way!! That’s the specialty of Pondicherry!! Ranging from Raymond shop to platform sellers, from Pizza corner to road side hotels...from Grocery shop like Nilgiris to Vegetable/ Fish markets….all comes within the four corners of Pondicherry.
Most ppl park their vehicles at one place and shop till they drop. During festivals, you can see hundreds of heads in the Central shopping area and also in beach…Being a civil engineer, I admire the infrastructure development of Pondicherry...You can ask me wat attracted me? The Beaches, Ashrams, Temples, Parks, Petrol banks, Bank branches, ATM centers, Markets, Food courts, Shopping Malls, Recreational Centers, Large to small accessories….everything can be reached by feet.
We gals from hostel take the list of our one month needs, shop from 3 pm to 9pm (though our intime is 8.30 pm)…Coming late to hostel is always a thrill for US…lol...
While saying abt shopping, important point which I should mention is COST…of course u won’t get the fashionable, modernable as u get in big cities like Bangalore, but still wide varieties can be seen within your budget…
Even now, my mom whenever I go to Pondicherry, gives me a BIG (quite a big yar..) list which includes cashews, groundnuts, oils, other grocery items, Incent sticks frm Aurobindo Ashram, decorative items from platforms and it goes on and on….
A must see place in Pondicherry is Auroville - which is about half an hour’s drive away. Auroville was built by a French lady now known as the ‘Mother,’ a disciple of Sri Aurobindo.
As soon as you enter, you ll be welcomed by wide variety of plants and flowers…The samathi is decorated everyday with rainbow colors of flowers…. (I always wonder how they arrange it
daily awesomely) you can always find the pin drop of silence there. 
While you come out, I am sure you feel that u r relieved of stress and tension and you gain the confidence to face the problem with courage. Your mind is freed now. You feel as if you have got the POWER to WIN!!!
I never missed a chance of going to ashram at least once in a month. What a calm serenity…Its really HEAVEN IN EARTH!!!

Outside people can also stay in ashram’s guest house which is located in a serene atmosphere, just opposite the beach. The rooms were names after various English words such as Passion, Serene, Love etc.
Then comes the Auroville - A universal town which wants to be a place where men and women of all countries live in peace and progressive harmony, above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities. The purpose of Auroville is to realize human unity.
It is also called as Matrimandir. It has been beautifully planned and constructed (Civil Engineers are indeed builders to the nation… just like me...Lol). It also has its solar power plant and is surrounded by manicured gardens.
When there is no sun or after the sunset, the sunray on the globe is replaced by beam from a solar powered light.
